Developer of Dust 514 Announces Project Legion

CCP, the creator of the popular first-person shooter Dust 514, has announced the development of an upcoming game with Project Legion.

Project Legion is CCP’s most recent goal to create a game that will be a first-person sandbox shooter set in the same universe as Eve Online and Dust.  This game expands on gameplay and combat dynamics that were established with Dust 514 on the Playstation 3 while implementing the sandbox features of Eve Online.  Basically, the universe’s design will allow players and their alliances to battle others for the control of districts and regions.

Game designer Julien Bourbonnais has stated that the CCP team aims to create a game that is more accessible to all gamers; “This will be much more accessible. First of all it will be a free-to-play game, there will be no barrier to entry. And it is a brand new experience, it is something that people never experienced before. We want to give something different for the users.”

As Bourbonnais has said, the fruit of Project Legion will be a free-to-play game similar to Dust 514.  If this game follows the same path as Dust 514, there will likely be features such as weapons, vehicles, and upgrades that can be immediately purchased with the real money in place of in-game currency.

Project Legion has yet to receive an official game title and the release date has not been determined.  When the result of Project Legion is released, it will be available on the PC.  It is unknown as to whether or not the game will be playable on other platforms.

This seems to be a promising game that both fans of Dust 514 and Eve Online will enjoy.
